Brucha, modah, boreit - how can Hebrew grammar of our texts and prayers be conjugated for those who want to address the Divine Feminine? An introduction to the basics of gender in Biblical Hebrew grammar.

This his class is for folks who:

  • Know how to read Hebrew (with vowels), but don’t yet have a grounding in the basics of Hebrew grammar.

  • Learned some modern Hebrew in the past but and would like to better understand ancient Hebrew through liturgy and Torah.

  • Already speak modern Hebrew or have studied Biblical Hebrew and would like to brush up on the basics of gender and number rules.

All materials will be provided via google docs and screen share during the class. Students will need an internet connection and a device with a screen during the class itself. Access to a Hebrew dictionary is recommended but not required.

Classes will take place via video conference 8 Mondays: October 28, November 4, 11, 18, 25, December 2, 9, 16 from
8:30-9:30pm EST. All classes will be recorded. This course is cumulative - students who miss a class are required to watch the one they have missed before the next week’s class. If you cannot make the class time, you can still enroll and then listen/watch on another date. Students who miss more than two classes in a row should review lessons with the teacher.

About Sarah Chandler aka Kohenet Shamirah:

Shamirah is a Brooklyn-based Jewish educator, ritualist, artist, activist, and poet. She earned her Masters in Hebrew Bible from the Jewish Theological Seminary in 2006. Currently, she is the program director of the new Romemu Yeshiva (opening June 2019), a garden educator with Grow Torah, and the Director of Curriculum Design & Cultivation with Fig Tree, a startup Hebrew School in Brooklyn. A trainer with Taamod (formerly B'kavod), she supports Jewish non-profits in harassment prevention, through designing and maintaining respectful workplaces. She teaches, writes, and consults on issues related to Jewish earth-based spiritual practice, farming, and mindfulness. Ordained as a Kohenet (Hebrew Priestess) in 2015, she is studying as a shamanic healer apprentice at The Wisdom School of S.O.P.H.I.A and Kabbalistic imaginal dream work at The School of Images.
